TIDAL CREEK

These wetlands are a natural filtering process that allows vegetation to absorb and clean water before slowly releasing it back into the watershed also known as an estuary. One definition of estuaries is where the rivers meet the sea. In this case, a creek makes its way from the freshwater to the saltwater marsh and opens on the tides exchanging life with the saltier Sound.

A short walk toward the pier brings you to the outflow of the tidal creek. Wading birds and other predators feed on organisms in the shallow creek at low tide and at higher elevations when tides are in.
